Fishing for giant White Sturgeon on British
Columbia's Fraser River, is a unique sport fishing experience, available
in very few places on the planet. White Sturgeon are one of the largest fresh
water sport fish in the world, with some Sturgeon growing to over a thousand pounds,
and a few hundred years old.
White Sturgeon was open to commercial
fishing, sport fishing, and Native Canadians up until the late 1960's,
during those times there was no catch and release policy and these
amazing fish were being depleted. Sturgeon fishing in BC, is now catch
and release only, in order to preserve these beautiful long lived,
prehistoric fish.
Our
fishing guides work with Canada's Department of Oceans and
Fisheries, to tag White Sturgeon, to record their patterns and
lifecycle so that we can protect and enhance these the sturgeon
fisheries on the Fraser River. This program has paid off, with higher
numbers of White Sturgeon being recorded every year.
Sturgeon fishing can be
exhausting, fighting a monster game fish, weighing up to 1000 Lbs for up
to 3 hours, is hard work. You better bring a
couple of friends if you want to land one of these monsters.
